Our Company

Tropical American Timber is an importer of beautiful, handpicked wood slabs from Central America, and a producer of custom slab tables here in Gainesville, FL.

We specialize in Monkeypod and Parota live edge wood slabs, along with a rotating inventory of exotic wood species: Teak, Brazilian Cherry, Purpleheart, Bubinga, Meranti, Espavel, and Pochote, to name a few. We also stock a variety of domestic hardwoods, including White Oak, Live Oak, Black Walnut, and Cherry.

Owner and co founder, Calvin DiNicolo has a background in architecture, design, and fabrication, while co founder Anthony Traina spent years studying and working in the tropical rain forests of Central and South America. The connections and experience that Anthony developed abroad is what allows us to provide the truly one-of-a-kind forest products that we import.

Anthony was very helpful. I had recent foot surgery and he went up and down the stairs to the upper loft multiple times to bring us TEAK boards to approve before buying two for our boat companionway. He spent time explaining how he and his partner started their timber import business while working in forestry in Costa Rica. They have some beautiful GIGANTIC slabs of exotic hardwoods, suitable for any conference or dining table.

I love all kinds of wood and wanted to build my own 7ft. foyer entrance table for my house but Home Depot and Lowe’s do not really offer a lot of choices. While doing a search on Facebook marketplace, I discovered Tropical American Timber. They had an add for Teak wood so I decided to go check it out. Upon arrival, I was in “wood heaven”. I couldn’t believe the beautiful variety, sizes and colors they had to choose from!!! They were extremely helpful and educational. I purchased a beautiful Monkey pod slab. I will definitely be going back for more on future projects!!! Great guys to work with. Thank you all so much!!!

We met Calvin of Tropical American Timber at the home show in St. Augustine. The live edge pieces he had on display there were simply stunning. We made an appointment to meet Calvin and Anthony at their location in Gainesville and ended up purchasing the very same table we saw at the home show! Everyone who sees it is just blown away by how gorgeous it is. We were so impressed by their clear passion for what they do and the amount of time explaining the different wood slabs they had for tables as well as their features. We had a custom base made and shipped to Tropical American directly… they mounted the table onto the base and delivered it to us. It is truly a work of art and will be the centerpiece of our new home.
